Our Story

We’re Tim and Rachel - a winemaker and a wine sampler.

After years living in Margaret River, we took a leap of faith and purchased our very own slice of paradise in the Ferguson Valley, drawn to the regions beautiful landscape and potential for growing exceptional wine grapes. We subsequently took on the lease of a neighbouring vineyard and began crafting wines that reflect the land, the season, and the hands that make them.

Fearon is our shared vision: honest, minimal-intervention wines grown and made in a place we now call home.

Winemaker + Vigneron

Tim Fearon

Born with a fascination for biology and the environment, Tim honed his skills working as an environmental scientist before fully diving into winemaking. He spent years crafting Margaret River wines, mastering traditional & minimal-input techniques, and bringing that experience to our patch of paradise in Ferguson Valley & Geographe.

Tim brings a deep respect for land and climate to everything he grows and ferments. He’s hands-on from bud to bottle - pruning, picking, crushing, fermenting - and reckons the best wines are born in the vineyard, not the lab.

His winemaking philosophy? Let the vines speak - each vintage is about expressing the season and site, not manipulation. Think fermenting fiano in clay amphora, experimenting with aeration techniques, or coaxing texture and soul with bâtonnage.

Tim’s proudest works are his varietal-focused releases: juicy Malbec, zesty Tempranillo, powerful Gingin‑clone Chardonnay, and that laid‑back Rosé for summer afternoons.

But here’s what really lights him up: pushing boundaries sustainably by testing different aging vessels, embracing wild ferments, toggling between new & seasoned oak, all with one aim - flavour, clarity and authenticity.

Whether you're pouring a glass of the Sauv Blanc by the beach or decanting the Tempranillo to enjoy with Sunday roast, every bottle is a snapshot of Tim’s journey: rooted in science, driven by curiosity, and nurtured by respect for Kaniyang country.

Rachel Cryer

Rachel’s path to working with wine wasn’t exactly direct - more a scenic route via marketing, public relations, and a fair few night shifts. Born and raised in Bunbury, she eventually found her way back to the South West, where she met Tim in Margaret River. Together, they dreamed up a life filled with vineyards, a veggie patch, some chooks, and a barrel of Chardonnay, and (of course) a winery dog named Monty.

At Fearon, Rachel is the quiet engine room. She wrangles the business side, keeps the brand honest and human, reminds Tim to keep his wine descriptors grounded, and also finds time to catch babies in her other life as a GP Obstetrician. She brings the heart, the hustle, and a healthy dose of cheek to Fearon, and loves a chat while pouring a tasting.

She’s usually the one replying to your emails, packing your wine orders, and making sure Fearon feels as good as it tastes. And yes, she will talk you into trying the Chardonnay if you haven’t already.

Vineyard Supervisor, Morale Officer, Very Good Boy

Monty

The other third of Fearon is Monty, our dog with a serious work ethic and a healthy suspicion of kangaroos. Part kelpie, part border-collie, all heart, he's been by Tim and Rachel's side on the vineyard since day one.

Monty patrols the rows and keeps a watchful eye on bird and pest pressure. When he’s not herding something or helping Tim top up barrels, he’s usually snoozing outside the winery door.

He’s got a keen nose for dropped snacks, a deep hatred for the rain, and a soft spot for mountain bike rides - ideally the kind that end in him getting very muddy. He doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to visitors, grape-picking days, or a post-harvest knock-off beer under the trees.

Monty might not make the wine, but he’s there for every step of it. And frankly, we'd be lost without him.

Our Wines

We work with vineyards across the Ferguson Valley and Geographe wine region - including the one we now farm - to produce wines that reflect where they’re grown.

There is something quite beautiful about how abstract elements like soil, sunshine, wind and the human touch can be entwined, encapsulated and expressed so profoundly in a glass of wine.

We handmake all our wines from grape to glass, and each bottle tells a story of soil, season, and time.

But also – we only make wine we ourselves would drink shared with friends and family – with soft cheese, lamb roast, or spicy fish tacos.

Why Ferguson Valley?

Ferguson Valley is one of Australia’s best-kept wine secrets - blessed with natural assets, including a Mediterranean climate, rolling hills, and rich soils.

The landscape is uniquely WA: Jarrah forests, granite outcrops, generous rainfall, and beautiful watercourses like the Ferguson and Preston rivers, which flow into the Leschenault inlet.
